The industry standard for paralleling wellbores
Talk to an expertThe MGT™ Magnetic Guidance Tool provides an active magnetic ranging solution, enabling the drilling of parallel wells with high precision separation tolerances. Improved survey accuracy enhances the safe and efficient placement of multiple wellbores within tight tolerances.
The MGT service consists of a downhole electromagnetic source and an MWD service. It generates a known magnetic field, which the MWD service reads with an accuracy of less than 5 percent of the separation distance. In Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) applications, this translates to wellbore position accuracy within a foot of the reference well, resulting in vertically aligned well pairs at a fixed distance distances. For infill drilling and collision avoidance, operators can confidently place wells closer together than with traditional survey methods.
The MGT service and the RMRS™ Rotary magnet ranging system are used to drill the majority of SAGD pairs worldwide, equating to over 3,000 well pairs.
Magnetic ranging solutions demonstrate a well-established history of expertise, proving our dedication to precision when navigating the intricacies of well proximity applications.
The RMRS™ rotary magnet ranging system provides active magnetic ranging to accurately determine the position of nearby wellbores and reduce survey errors.
The Aurora™ surface-access magnetic ranging service provides accurate well placement in SAGD applications without downhole intervention.
WellSpot™ active magnetic-ranging systems use precise sensors to provide data for multiple drilling applications.
The Passive Magnetic Ranging (PMR) service utilizes the remnant magnetic fields on target well tubulars to provide a distance and direction between wellbores.
