Operator Achieves High ROP in a Section, Drills One-Run Lateral

Overview 

An operator in the Bakken wanted to reduce drilling time in horizontal 6” hole sections. Halliburton Sperry Drilling team collaborated with the operator to deliver an engineered drilling solution to reduce well time by utilizing the 5” StrataForce™ high-performance motor. The Drilling Engineering Solutions team from Sperry Drilling delivered a motor bottom-hole assembly (BHA) design for accurate trajectory tracking to minimize sliding time to deliver the lateral with the highest rate of penetration (ROP). The MWD system from Sperry Drilling delivered accurate directional measurements, shock and vibration data and gamma ray information without interruption. The Sperry Drilling team delivered a shoe-to-shoe, one-run lateral, improving on bottom drilling performance by 23% versus plan.
