CAST-XRT™ cement evaluation tool for complete well integrity

Accurate cement and casing evaluation is essential to maintaining well integrity, especially in challenging environments. The CAST-XRT™ cement evaluation tool from Halliburton provides high-resolution ultrasonic imaging that helps operators make confident decisions across the well lifecycle.

Why use CAST-XRT™ for cement evaluation

CAST-XRT™ delivers 360-degree imaging to identify top-of-cement and mud-induced channels behind casing. It simultaneously evaluates casing wear and cement bonds in a single pass, without requiring changes to wellbore fluid. This reduces rig standby time and eliminates logging uncertainty.

The tool operates in brine, water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based muds with densities up to 18 lb/gal. It supports casing wall thicknesses from 0.35 to 1.2 in. and internal diameters from 4.625 to 20 in., making it suitable for a wide range of well conditions.

Features

  • Multiple scanner-head sizes enable operation from a 45/8-in. to 20-in. internal diameter (ID), allowing for well integrity diagnostics in multiple casing sizes, including drilling risers
  • Mud-cell chamber acquires real-time continuous traveltime (FTT) data, thus ensuring measurement accuracy, even in high-density OBMs/SBMs

Benefits

  • Identifies top-of-cement and mud-induced channels behind casing with 360° high-resolution imaging
  • Simultaneously determines drilling-related casing wear and cement bonds in a single pass without any changes in wellbore fluid
  • Eliminates log uncertainty and rig standby costs, with a logging solution that is less sensitive to mud- or casing-related influences

Ultrasonic imaging for harsh environments

CAST-XRT™ is engineered for performance in extreme downhole conditions. It features a next-generation acoustic transducer, programmable tuned pulses, and high-powered ultrasonic signals that minimize wave attenuation caused by mud and casing. A mud-cell chamber captures real-time traveltime data to ensure measurement accuracy, even in high-density fluids.

The tool’s fully programmable data acquisition optimizes logging speed and coverage. Horizontal sampling rates range from 45 to 1,080 shots per scan, and vertical rates reach up to 72 scans per foot. This enables detailed analysis of cement bonds, casing wear, and pipe thickness.

Integrated well integrity diagnostics

Operators can combine CAST-XRT™ with Halliburton’s Pad Bond Tool and Borehole Sonic Array Tool for multi-measurement evaluations. This integration supports zonal isolation verification and plug and abandonment compliance in a single logging run.

The tool’s acoustic impedance measurement range (0–10 Mrayls) and pipe thickness accuracy (±2%) provide reliable data for evaluating lightweight and foam cement slurries. LOGIQ® telemetry enables tool combinability with other openhole logging services, enhancing operational efficiency.

Designed for every stage of the well lifecycle

CAST-XRT™ supports intervention, completion, production, and decommissioning operations. It helps engineers and field supervisors execute safer, more efficient jobs with actionable insights from every logging run.
