Halliburton successfully deployed its VersaFlex® expandable liner hanger system in the bp-operated Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli (ACG) project offshore Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea. The operation reinforces the companies’ long-standing collaboration and demonstrates Halliburton’s ability to deliver high-value well construction solutions in one of the region’s most complex offshore environments. The project highlights the company’s focus to support customer objectives throughout the well life cycle.
Our teams delivered consistent, dependable performance in a demanding offshore environment, demonstrating the strength of close collaboration on the project.
bp selected West Azeri C44, one of its key wells for the year, as the first location for system installation. Halliburton has long provided trusted liner hanger solutions to bp, and this deployment marks the company’s adoption of the new 13⅜ × 16 in. The VersaFlex expandable liner hanger system in the new size replaced a conventional liner hanger used for more than a decade and provides improved performance within multiple liner sizes. Its bidirectional design supports bp’s well integrity and construction objectives. The deployment helped reduce well construction time by approximately two days and maintained consistent execution quality.
The qualification process for this application began in late 2022 when bp requested technical confirmation of Halliburton’s ability to deliver the VersaFlex expandable liner hanger system. Over the following two years, Halliburton collaborated with bp’s local, regional, and central teams through detailed reviews, technical discussions, and internal evaluations to ensure the system met ACG field requirements.
To address anchoring and sealing performance, Halliburton recommended a finite element analysis approach tailored to ACG’s conditions. This method reduced the requirement for extended revalidation and provided a technical basis for system performance.
The deployment strengthens Halliburton’s position as the completions technology leader and trusted collaborator on complex well construction projects in the Caspian region. It underscores the company’s ability to deliver reliable, technologically advanced completion solutions that support customers’ well construction goals, elevate operational performance, and help operators address today’s reservoir and field development priorities.
