The Recruiting Inclusive Students into Energy (RISE) program celebrated another milestone after RISE President and recent Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) graduate Darianna Glenn accepted a full-time position with Halliburton’s IT department. Glenn is one of a handful of students from the inaugural cohort selected to participate in the two-year program, which provides juniors in PVAMU’s College of Business and Roy G. Perry College of Engineering with scholarships, employee mentors, and summer internships.

Glenn always knew she wanted to work in IT but was uncertain about a career path and area of interest. After attending several professional development courses offered by the program and completing an IT internship with Halliburton, she solidified her career path and her aspirations to be a CIO.

“The RISE program and my summer internship exceeded my expectations,” Glenn said. “In college, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do in IT. I knew my end goal was to be CIO one day, but the steps to get there were still unclear. My internship and the two projects I completed helped me understand what direction I wanted to go in.”

Glenn credits her mentor, Myrtle Jones, senior vice president of Tax, with her decision to kickstart her career with Halliburton.

“Myrtle is great,” Glenn said. “She came to my graduation party, met my family, and even had a sit-down talk with me and my parents. She discussed her passion and told us about where she started and where she is now. That’s what motivated me to come to Halliburton – her experiences and the way she talked about the company. It sounded like it was the best place for me to be.”

As president of the program, Glenn continues to work with University Affairs to plan events, offer feedback, and share what she learned during her time in the program. Her goal is to create opportunities for students to bond with other scholars, build a professional network, and prepare for the future.

“Our vision for this program was to expose and immerse students to the oil and gas industry and our company," Leah Carter, RISE program director and program manager for Halliburton’s field service development programs said. "The growth we have seen in our inaugural RISE cohort and what they have accomplished from their first day in the program to now shows the impact of RISE.”

If you or your PVAMU student would like to participate in the RISE program, apply here. The application deadline is Saturday, April 1, 2023.
