Throughout a targeted donation campaign, the WSE Africa chapter collected funds and items to donate to three orphanages in the area.
Since its inception, the Women Sharing Excellence (WSE) employee resource group in Halliburton’s Africa area has worked to increase employee development, leadership, and retention while harnessing the strengths of a diverse community in Africa. Even with the challenges of a pandemic, the WSE Africa chapter remained focused on making a difference and improving their communities.
Throughout a targeted donation campaign, the WSE Africa chapter collected funds and items to donate to three orphanages in the area. Employees donated toys, books, learning materials, and food items. The group also raised money for the Centro Neurosurgical, a center that treats children with hydrocephalus, a serious but treatable brain condition. They made donations at socially distanced drop-off locations or through monetary contributions.
“Seeing the smiles and hope that lit up the faces of these children was such a reward to the team,” said Martha Bienu, WSE Chair, Africa. “It was a wonderful way that we, as Halliburton ambassadors, could give back to those in our community.”
WSE Africa executive sponsors and advisers encouraged and supported the group’s efforts. Employees from throughout the region, including the Congo, Angola, and Ghana, made generous donations as well.
“We applaud the WSE Africa chapter on the creativity and leadership they have shown in implementing such initiatives across the area during this unusually tough year,” said Shankar Narayan, vice president, Africa-Other Area. “I am humbled with the response we have received from our teams.”
