Since at least 1976, Americans have recognized February as Black History Month as an opportunity for the U.S. to celebrate the rich culture and achievements of Black people. This year, BELIEVE (Black Employees Leading in Excellence, Vision, and Education), Halliburton’s Black employee resource group, hosted Black History Month events that included a health and wellness fair, an art social, and two charitable giving campaigns.

Here are a few highlights from the events:

Heart Health & Wellness Fair: This year, Valentine’s Day was filled with more than cards and candy. Instead, BELIEVE focused on heart healthy activities and information sessions to help employees make incremental lifestyle changes and prevent chronic illness. Participants learned regular health screenings, cooking with healthy, whole foods, and a fitness routine are the first line of defense against heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions that disproportionately impact people of color.

Art & Social Event: A group of employees gathered to explore the Kinsey African American Art & History Collection on display at the Holocaust Museum Houston and attended an art discussion with local artist, Ava Cosey. Cosey discussed her process, inspiration, and the cultural significance of her work.

Giving Campaigns: In support of Black Girls Do Engineer and Girls Inc., non-profit organizations that serve girls interested in STEM, BELIEVE created two giving opportunities for all our participation. Click on the links below to give to these important campaigns:

It’s important for Halliburton to celebrate all employee’s unique contributions to the company and the community. Our annual Black History Month celebration allows us to support our employees and the communities where we work and live.
