The interpretation of faults in seismic data is a critical component of hydrocarbon exploration and development workflows. However, the traditional methods of interpreting faults (typically the manual interpretation of faults sticks) is labor-intensive and expensive. As a result, technologies for assisting, or automating fault interpretation have become increasingly desired.

In this webinar, we first look at how traditional physics-based fault imaging algorithms have evolved, and how cloud technologies are accelerating those changes to deliver not only higher quality images but also insights into interpretation uncertainties. We also look at the limitations of these approaches & how experienced geoscientists can exceed automated approaches in areas such as noisy data.

Next, we show how machine learning can help by incorporating elements of the interpreter’s learned knowledge into automated workflows. This webinar will discuss multiple machine learning approaches and how they can be used during different stages of the fault interpretation process.
