Cementing

Successful primary cementing operations result in a cement sheath to bond and support casing and provide zonal isolation. Good zonal isolation helps prevent the loss of production, control inter-zonal flow and/or flow to the surface, reduce water production and improve confinement of stimulation treatments. Halliburton has more than 90 years of experience and research/development in achieving optimum cement-sheath integrity. Halliburton has been leading the industry in delivering effective zonal isolation in oil, gas, geothermal, offshore and hydrate wells since 1919.

Additionally, Halliburton has more than 105 cement laboratories throughout the world to engineer cement slurry designs for specific well needs. Utilizing global process standards, these labs are essential for achieving the consistency and quality of product delivered in the field.

Importantly, Halliburton offers iCem® Service, the industry's most robust engineering design tool for assessing and monitoring specific well variables before, during, and after a cement job. The simulations run through iCem service allow operators to make more informed decisions and achieve operational efficiencies.

Halliburton's cementing, pumping and mixing services are supported by state-of-the-art land and offshore cementing equipment, designed and manufactured by Halliburton to industry standards.

Additionally, Halliburton leads the industry in offering casing equipment in conjunction with cementing services. Since patenting the two-plug system in 1922, Halliburton has continuously developed new cementing techniques and casing equipment products.

Use of Halliburton cementing solutions can help prevent undesirable movement of fluids from one zone to another. For instance, wells used for storing CO2 or wells exposed to formation CO2 are likely to be subjected to the corrosive effects of CO2-induced carbonic acid - and this could compromise zonal isolation. Halliburton has proprietary cementing solutions that are particularly suited to situations encountered in wells producing CO2 or co-producing hydrocarbons and in carbon capture and storage (CCS) wells.

These leaks can be caused by corrosion, casing damage resulting from tool wear, or failure of the threads to provide an adequate seal.
