School to Educate More Than 11,000 Students Over the Next Decade
HOUSTON – Oct. 31, 2014 – Thanks to Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) and the Amom Foundation, students in the village of Nfiengong in Douala, Cameroon, will soon no longer share the plight of walking more than 20 miles to primary school.
Halliburton donated $39,000 to help the Amom Foundation reconstruct St. Louis Catholic Primary School Nfiengong, which was destroyed by a windstorm in 2011.The primary school was the only educational facility within a 2-mile radius of the village and served about 275 students ranging from 4 -12 years old.
Halliburton and the Amom Foundation broke ground on the school Oct. 25, and construction is scheduled for completion by Jan. 31, 2015. Halliburton employees will also contribute volunteer hours toward the project. The school is expected to benefit 11,400 primary school students over the next 10 years and will initially include three classrooms, a storage facility and an office for the head teacher.
“We appreciate the support Halliburton has provided for this project and are elated about the extraordinary impact it will have on the lives of families in the village of Nfiengong,” said Afowiri Fondzenyuy, Amom Foundation founder and managing director. “Tens of thousands of students, for years to come, will have a place to attend primary school because of Halliburton.”
“Every child should have a chance to go to school. It’s an honor to provide that opportunity to thousands of students,” said Sandeep Kumar, Halliburton area manager, West and North Central Africa. “Our effort with the Amom Foundation will have a lasting impact and aligns with our global efforts to be a good corporate neighbor.”
