Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) announced today the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in Grande Prairie in anticipation of continued growth opportunities in the area. Development of the Wild River/Hinton, Montney and Horn River Basins presents considerable opportunities for Canada and for Halliburton.
“This is an exciting new chapter in Halliburton’s history in Canada,” said John Gorman, vice president of Halliburton’s Canada operations. “We’ve had a strong presence in Grande Prairie for the last 35 years and while 2009 was a challenging year for the industry, the long-term outlook is positive and Halliburton is working to ensure that we will be able to accelerate our growth during the recovery. This multi-million dollar investment in our infrastructure is a demonstration of our commitment to this area.”
The new 200,000 square-feet complex includes maintenance facilities, bulk and chemical warehouses, sand storage facilities, a fully functional laboratory, a two-bay automated truck washing building, and parking areas for vehicles and heavy equipment. The facility is the amalgamation of five other facilities.
“We are extremely proud of our new facility and the multiple service solutions that we are able to bring to our customers,” said Mark Flette, district manager, Grande Prairie District, Halliburton. “In particular, the remoteness of the Horn River Basin relies heavily on service providers that can provide technology and solutions across multiple product service lines to accommodate completion requirements in the area. This investment better aligns us to do that.”
In addition to offering a full range of energy services, Halliburton and its more than 400 employees in the area are involved in many activities with local charities and civic organizations in the community. District employees recently raised over $13,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life and rode the Big Red Bike for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta in the local Canada Day Parade.
The Halliburton Foundation, Halliburton and its employees give back to communities worldwide through monetary contributions, as well as volunteer time and in-kind contributions. In 2009, in-kind services (including software grants) totaled $570 million; cash contributions provided more than $3 million direct to not-for-profit organizations; and volunteer time to charitable activities worldwide exceeded 50,000 hours.
