HALLIBURTON PLEDGES $400,000 TO SEG FOUNDATION

—Funds will help create new Web site for global geophysical community—

HOUSTON - Landmark, a product service line of Halliburton's (NYSE: HAL) Drilling and Evaluation Division, announced today at the annual meeting of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) in San Antonio, Texas, that it has agreed to donate $400,000 to the SEG Foundation to help fund the development of a new Web site, SEG Online.
"We are proud to partner with SEG to create this new, world-class Web site to help meet the needs of geophysicists around the world," said Doug Meikle, Landmark vice president. "Today's geophysicists must handle more data at a faster pace, leaving less time and resources for professional development and mentoring the next generation. Halliburton and Landmark recognize the value in providing digital online access to comprehensive, leading-edge information, and we are proud to play a role in this solution that will strengthen the global geophysical community."
SEG has commenced a multi-year program to develop an Internet presence that will provide its 27,000 members with global access to all current applied geophysical knowledge, including publications, conference presentations, distinguished lectures, continuing education courses, research activities, vendor expertise, career information, university programs and peer consultation and collaboration. The site will target practicing geophysicists, students and youth around the world. The first phase of the program, to be completed in late 2007, provides the enabling hardware and software infrastructure to deliver the new capabilities and content.
"The SEG has become a truly global organization, with over 60 percent of our members residing outside of the United States. It is essential that SEG provide the knowledge, expertise and continuing education our members require wherever they are located," said SEG President Leon Thomsen. "To do this, SEG has developed a plan for SEG Online and made a substantial financial commitment to the first phase. The successful achievement of our vision of comprehensive online geophysical information serving current and future members will require continued commitment and investment. We are pleased to partner with Halliburton, a company that understands the power of the digital age."
Halliburton and Landmark have been active supporters of SEG for more than 15 years through various donations and sponsorships, including the provision of undergraduate and graduate scholarships and the support of students' membership dues.
