Deep Water

Deep water is the most challenging and expensive play in the world today. To help address the high costs of exploration and development, Halliburton is bringing new efficiencies to deep water with reliable equipment, high-caliber people and innovative technologies.

Please visit booth #5225 to listen to a group of seasoned Halliburton experts talk about best-in-class solutions that are bringing new efficiencies to deepwater plays.

Game-Changing Technology for Safe, Quick, and Precise Free Point Determination with the Halliburton Free Point Tool

Shelley Garner

When stuck pipe stalls in deepwater operations, NPT costs accrue minute by minute. The Halliburton Free Point Tool (HFPT) can significantly reduce NPT by locating free pipe 50 percent faster than a traditional tool.  Learn how the HFPT operates quickly and accurately in a single-trip operation, measuring changes in the pipe’s magnetic properties to generate a real-time log. Decrease NPT with this safe, quick, and precise free point technology.

Life Cycle Solutions for Deepwater Field Developments

Laurence James Abney

Halliburton's Pipeline and Process Services has the technology and proven capabilities to be your partner of choice in any deepwater development. During the construction of deepwater pipelines, our Subsea Pigging and Hydrotesting Unit (SPHU) and world-class umbilical technology helps ensure safe and efficient precommissioning of pipelines and umbilical while minimizing vessel requirements and installation time. For water injection and secondary production, our CleanStream® service helps reduce or remove biocide requirements, reducing both environmental risk and operating costs. Monitoring and removing pipeline deposits are part of our SureStream® services, to help ensure that pipelines are safe and operate efficiently throughout their entire life cycle. Learn about the technology and the benefits delivered throughout the life cycle of the field.

Monday, May 6 - 1 pm; Tuesday, May 7 - 9:30 am

Improve the Reliability of Subsea Liner Installations

Abdolreza Gharesi

Understanding the complexity and challenges for deepwater installations is the key to providing a reliable solution. Learn how Halliburton’s VersaFlex® big-bore expandable liner hanger (ELH), COMMANDER™ cementing head, casing equipment, and cementing expertise can help in reducing both risk and capital costs. These technologies provide casing-placement flexibility that helps eliminate related liner-installation issues and allow for zonal isolation integrity.

Monday, May 6 - 3 pm; Wednesday, May 8 - 9:30 am

A Smart Approach to an Intelligent Solution

Martin Staelens

Are periodic replacements of electric submersible pumps (ESPs) hindering you from implementing intelligent completion technology? Do you have concerns about deploying intelligent completions in long horizontal completions? If you answered “yes,” then Halliburton's SmartWell® Disconnect tools are the answer. With these tools, intelligent completions can now be reliably implemented without incurring high workover costs while benefitting from the reservoir optimization ability that intelligent completions bring.

Monday, May 6 - 5 pm; Wednesday, May 8 - 1 pm

Safety and Efficiency Designed In and Excess Complexity Designed Out

Richard Broad

Join us to learn how Halliburton’s Dash™ Emergency Response Module (ERM) added to the Veto™ premiere 3-inch, 15k Subsea Safety System provides rapid dual-barrier well shut in and emergency landing string disconnect without complex downhole electronics or accumulators.

Monday, May 6 - 2 pm; Tuesday, May 7 - 5 pm; Thursday, May 9 - 9:30 am

Efficiency that Saves Time and Money

Svein Ravndal

In a traditional reaming-while-drilling BHA, the reamer is placed above the RSS and LWD tools, creating a long rathole and requiring an extra trip to enlarge hole to TD. Challenged to design a tool to increase efficiency, Halliburton delivered a solution with the added benefits of optimized steerability and fluid flow, and reduced tool length, based on the proven reliability of the NBR® reamer technology. Run in conjunction with a traditional reamer, TDReam™ is Halliburton's newest downhole innovation designed to significantly reduce rathole length and reach TD in one run.

Monday, May 6 - 4 pm; Wednesday, May 8 - 12 pm; Thursday, May 9 - 1 pm

Efficiently Reaching Previously Inaccessible Reservoirs with a Low-ECD Solution

Bill Shumway, Lonnie Helms, Steven Stringfellow

Learn about Halliburton’s comprehensive solution to manage tight equivalent circulating density (ECD) margins. Circulating fluids, running casing and liners, and cementing create additional pressure on the formation that can induce fractures and lost circulation. This solution helps operators stay within the pore pressure and fracture gradient window.

Monday, May 6 - 10:30 am; Tuesday, May 7 - 10:30 am; Wednesday, May 8 - 10:30 am; Thursday, May 9 - 10:30 am

A New Annular Barricade That Is a Resin to Celebrate

Paul Jones

Halliburton’s annular barricade is based on a resin, and designed to help provide wellbore integrity thus contributing to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. WellLock™ resin can act as an annular barricade against water and gas leaks. Applications include situations where water or gas leaks need to be prevented or remediated. WellLock resin is not a cement system. The Poisson’s ratio of WellLock resin is closer to that of rubber (inherently flexible); cement is closer to that of glass (inherently stiff).  Some formulations of our resin have achieved compressive strength of up to 48,500 psi (334 MPa).

Accurate Pre-drill Estimation is Essential for Deepwater Wells

Juan Reyna

The effect of the seawater column and sedimentation environment in deepwater wells dictates that advanced drilling technologies be implemented or developed to help mitigate drilling risks and ensure safe and cost-effective drilling. Navigation of a narrow drilling window poses the greatest challenge to deepwater exploration and development wells alike. There is no alternative to a robust process which integrates and synergizes the different disciplines involved in the well-construction process (geology, geophysics, drilling, etc.). The success of a well-construction plan depends on an accurate predrill estimation of a safe operating envelope for annular fluid pressure that prevents or minimizes formation fluid influx, drilling fluid loss, and wellbore instability. These factors are also paramount in deciding the prospectivity of the hydrocarbon reserve. Learn why accurate predrill estimation is essential in this discussion of major issues surrounding the drillability and prospectvity of deepwater wells.

Active or Passive: Magnetic Ranging—Two Techniques, One Goal

Clinton Moss

Whether intercepting or avoiding existing wells, magnetic ranging is key to staying on target. However, there are fundamental differences to the approach and the success rates between the standard passive magnetic ranging and Halliburton’s Active Magnetic Ranging services. Using Active Magnetic Ranging, Halliburton successfully placed relief wells where multiple attempts using passive ranging techniques failed. Learn about Halliburton’s recent successes with magnetic ranging services and the numerous applications for this technology.
