"Halliburton also encourages its employees to obtain patents and get papers…I’m currently involved in three patents."

What do you do for Halliburton?

I’m a senior technical professional. I design cooling systems for engines, transmissions and hydraulic systems. I deal with engines from 80 horsepower to 2250 horsepower for land and offshore applications.

What attracted you to a career with Halliburton?

Halliburton is the only oilfield service company that actually designs and builds its own equipment. (So working for Halliburton offered me the chance) to design the whole lifecycle of a project, from the feasibility conceptual study, to the initial design, to seeing it built in manufacturing and tested, to deployment to the field.

Halliburton also encourages its employees to obtain patents, get papers published and to pursue advanced degrees and professional certifications. I’m currently involved in three patents. I just received my Professional Engineering certification and my Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, both of which were paid for by Halliburton.

How has your career progressed since you’ve been with Halliburton?

When I began my career with Halliburton, I was an associate technical professional working with the equipment design group. Six months later, I was a design maintenance engineer at the manufacturing center. Now I’m a senior technical professional in the heavy equipment components and standards group designing cooling and hydraulics systems.

What type of learning and development opportunities has Halliburton offered you?

Since coming to work for Halliburton, I’ve received a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. I was able to take the courses at (Halliburton’s) Duncan Technology Center (where I work). Not only did Halliburton pay for my schooling, they also rewarded me after I received my degree.

Describe the interaction you have with customers.

Being on the equipment design side, our customers are really Halliburton’s field operations. They’re the ones out there using our equipment day in and day out. They know what works and what doesn’t work so we try to keep them involved in the initial design phase and they always have extremely valuable input.
