Geosteering for the Digital Asset

Optimize well placement within the most productive interval of a reservoir

The Geosteering for the Digital Asset solution helps to better place the wellbore in the most productive interval of the reservoir through improved understanding of the reservoir.

The Geosteering for the Digital Asset solution allows you to:

  • Improve collaboration and integration.  Information from multiple offset wells can be used to generate a single integrated model.   Also, 3D petrophysical data (which is not linear and varies with distance from the wellbore) can be used to provide the most accurate model for decision making and optimal wellbore positioning.  In this way, the Digital Asset is improving two-way connectivity between geologists, drilling engineers and geosteering engineers.
  • Real time.  Drilling engineers can update models (e.g., new well plan trajectories) as new geology is encountered.  Geology can be updated instantly to be used on completing the current well or planning the next one.  Geosteering engineers will have a more accurate picture of the reservoir quality (e.g., shale or sand, shaly sand or sandy shale).  Being able to update your plans and models while drilling helps to ensure you are able to land the wellbore in the most productive interval.
  • Model, Measure , Optimize. At the heart of all Digital Asset workflows is this approach.  For this workflow:
    • Model geological and petrophysical properties of the subsurface and the expected log responses.
    • Measure actual reservoir properties (through logging-while-drilling for example) and correlate measured responses with predicted logs.
    • Optimize the wellbore path to exploit the most productive reservoir zones by adjusting geology to match actual responses.  Adjust the well plan to hit the most productive zones.
