Velocity Modeling and Depth Imaging
From acquisition to earth model, accurate velocity estimation and depth imaging provides the key to understanding the subsurface before costly drilling decisions are made. With Promax® DepthCharge, the labor intensive and interpretive nature of this processing workflow can be executed more easily, often saving days over common approaches.
Benefits:
Fast and Easy Workflows for Velocity Modeling
The software is designed with ease of use as the primary consideration. The tomography and migration modules contain simple parameters based on physical properties, enabling users to set up and iterate upon their workflow rapidly. The tomography algorithm executes in hours or even minutes versus traditional approaches which can take days.
Superior Technology
The tomography is a careful implementation of a true 3D algorithm that achieves performance by carefully managing resolution - it is not a 2D algorithm extended to 3D. For prestack depth migration, a 3D plane wave migration was implemented in order to provide the most accurate migration that is still fast enough to iterate in a velocity model building workflow.
The Promax Harnesses Latest Multi-Core Clusters & Grid Computing
DepthCharge application was engineered to leverage all of the processing resources across a computer network. A robust approach to job balancing and execution, The Promax DepthCharge application is designed specifically to work around typical or even catastrophic interruptions on processing nodes or storage resources.
Features
3D Tomography
Focused on ease of use, the tomography algorithm is robust enough to start with stacking velocities, from which it can create a smooth interval velocity field, and then invert for raypaths, reflection points, and velocities. While it allows users to constrain the solution with layers if they choose to, it does not require that for good results – in other words users don't have to spend hours picking horizons on what may be complicated and noisy data. Finally, the speed of the tomography algorithm is remarkable – users can expect this algorithm to run in hours instead of days. The output velocity file is used to drive depth imaging algorithms, including the new 3D plane wave migration.
The Promax 2D Migration Velocity Analysis
DepthCharge application includes a suite of 2D interpretive processing tools that enable seismic processors and interpreters to bring their collective expertise together to construct an optimum depth velocity model in 2D. The software makes it quick and easy to produce an accurate 2D interval velocity model, one of the most difficult and time-consuming tasks in pre-stack depth migration. The result is significantly improved 2D seismic images and reflector positions, particularly in complex structures.
3D Plane Wave Migration
This algorithm is intended to be the highest quality migration that is still fast enough to iterate in a velocity model building workflow. It is a fast and accurate wave equation prestack depth migration – that can provide users with results the next day. In addition to velocity model workflows, it should be noted that this tool is suitable for a final migration for many additional situations, including most marine processing.
