From an emerging resource 10 years ago, and a mostly overlooked resource 20 years ago, unconventional gas is now a core business of many large independent producers and a growing number of major operating companies. Shales, tight-gas reservoirs, and coal beds are the main sources of what is generally known as unconventional gas.
