Invert Emulsion Drilling Fluid Systems

Baroid has led the advancement of invert emulsion fluid technology, from introducing the very first invert emulsion fluid, to the development and introduction of the award winning organophilic clay free systems that offer significant performance improvements. Baroid applies a customized approach when developing fluids, allowing the flexibility to continually address the latest and most pressing drilling challenges, such as reaching deeper, hotter, more remote reservoirs, ECD management, and extended reach applications.

High-Performance Invert Emulsion Systems

Superior hole cleaning
Baroid’s high-performance invert emulsion systems are organophilic clay free and provide improved drilling performance in the majority of wells drilled with an invert emulsion. Relying on emulsion and polymer technology for rheology, these fluids provide a superior rheological profile and robust, yet fragile gels to help ensure excellent hole cleaning and reduced sag tendencies.

Reduce non-productive time
Other fluids utilizing organophilic clay treatments often require time to fully yield. Baroid’s organophilic clay free systems prevent the requirement for circulating to stabilize the mud weight after long static periods. These systems’ co-polymer technology produces an extremely thin filter cake, which provides a better seal than conventional technologies resulting in low fluid invasion, optimal logging conditions, less skin damage, excellent return permeability and low lift-off pressures.

Drill in areas with narrow pore pressure and fracture gradient windows
High-performance systems are ideal for use in areas where the pore pressure/fracture gradient window is narrow. The rheology modifiers are polymer based which minimize surge pressures and can manage equivalent circulating density (ECD).

Conventional Invert Emulsion Systems

Proven performance
Baroid's conventional invert emulsion systems have established long term track records and are cost-effective. They can be formulated in tight emulsion, relaxed-filtrate, or all-oil configuration depending on application. ENVIROMUL™ conventional fluids are formulated with low toxicity mineral oils or paraffin oils instead of diesel, providing an HSE advance and making them less toxic to the environment and safer for rig personnel to handle.

Low ECD Enhancement Package
Halliburton Baroid’s low ECD enhancement package, was designed to provide low, controlled ECD in wells with a narrow margin between the pore pressure and fracture gradient, while also providing necessary hole cleaning and resistance to barite sag.
