Thermal Processing Systems

Thermal Processing SystemReduce costs with integrated technologies
Meeting the tight regulations of oil-based cuttings disposal in today’s drilling environment is a constant challenge. An added challenge is finding a cost-effective solution. Baroid offers solutions to both challenges with several different thermal technology solutions and a process-driven approach to waste management. Our thermal options include the proven thermal desorption method of indirect heated drums and the more recent friction-based Thermo-mechanical Cuttings Cleaner (TCC) solution. Experienced Baroid personnel will analyze the project goals and environmental regulations and then build your waste management solution with the most suitable thermal option. Our professionals can optimize it based on available footprint and capacity requirements. Allowing one trusted provider to handle the entire process significantly reduces your overall operational costs and the hassle of working with multiple providers.

Environmentally acceptable cuttings disposal
The goal of any thermal desorption technology is to produce oil-free or ultra-low residual oil on cuttings for disposal. High temperatures distill the oil from the solids and recover it to be reused as drilling fluid. The water and oil are separated through vaporization and then condensed separately. Baroid’s conventional thermal desorption unit and the thermo-mechanical cuttings cleaner achieve <1% oil retention on cuttings allowing more fluid to be recovered for re-use and less waste to be disposed of. The TCC has a small enough footprint to be used offshore, allowing overboard discharge in the most demanding of offshore regulations where discharge is allowed. Maximum separation reduces environmental impact and the liability of waste disposal with all disposal options.

Maximize fluid reuse with optimal base oil selection
Recovering oil for reuse in the drilling fluid is of little use if the oil has lost integrity. Baroid has studied the performance of various base oils in our thermal units to determine which offer the least risk of thermal degradation and the best return of recovered fluid for reuse. Our comprehensive technical and operational processes for waste management development take every factor into account when serving your unique rigsite goals.

Thermomechanical Cuttings Cleaner (TCC)
Baroid’s Thermomechanical Cuttings Cleaner (TCC) process unit is specially designed for the processing of oil contaminated drilling waste such as typical drill cuttings, slop-mud and spent drilling mud.
