Miocene deepwater plays of the northern Gulf of Mexico are characterized by an interplay of salt controlled mini-basin development and complex deepwater depositional systems. The salt intrusion in this complex environment makes reservoir geology difficult to understand, and 3D seismic vital. Projects in the development phase must balance increased well complexity with a need to reduce drilling and completion costs. Halliburton has been involved in some of the most complex installations in deepwater Miocene. The successful completion designs have varied from single-zone frac packs to triple-zone intelligent wells and horizontal openhole gravel packs. |
