Drill Bit Optimization

Drill Bit Optimization

At Halliburton, every drill bit we make is custom designed to match the application
To make that happen, we thoroughly examine the local lithology, any offset performance history, and the customer’s overall drilling plan/parameters. The result is an optimal drill bit solution designed to help achieve specific drilling objectives.

Unlike others, we believe in a decentralized approach to drill bit design
This means our technical design experts are actually located in our customers’ geographic areas of interest. Halliburton was the first to create a worldwide network of ADESM (Application Design Evaluation) specialists to work closely with customers to custom design bits for particular applications.

In the design stage, our specialists employ Halliburton’s unique optimization service platform – DatCISM (Design at the Customer Interface)
Halliburton’s DatCISM process is a continuous improvement loop employed by our on-location ADE specialists to define application-specific drill bit solutions via well planning software that analyzes formation properties and precisely defines the application and then matches the bit design to that application. This bit optimization process includes the industry’s most powerful proprietary software tools, including SPARTA™ analytical tools, Direction by Design™ software, and iBitS™ design software.

Direction by Design™ software
Halliburton Drill Bits and Services has developed Direction by Design software — a program that allows our ADE specialists to predict how a drill bit will respond in directional drilling applications.
MaxDrill™ Drilling Efficiency Software
Innovative software calculates the efficiency of the drill bit in real time in relation to formation type and rock strength and provides the driller with recommendations on the drilling parameters, expected rate of penetration and projected bit wear.
