Logging-While-Drilling (LWD)

The economics behind geosteering or high-cost drilling can cost-justify using logging-while-drilling (LWD) sensors to acquire data in real time. Halliburton uses LWD sensors to help direct high-angle and horizontal drilling, and to ensure efficient use of expensive rig time.

Azimuthal Lithodensity (ALD™) Sensor
LWD tool combines azimuthal binning of data and an independent acoustic standoff sensor to provide azimuthally oriented density data and Pe logs in an enlarged borehole. In addition, images of the formation are provided, from which the formation dip can be estimated.
Bi-modal AcousTic Sensor (BAT™)
LWD acoustic tool that has multiple, dual-frequency transmitters and dual seven-receiver arrays to provide compressional and shear slowness (∆t) logs in both fast and slow formations.
GABI™ Sensor - Gamma/At-Bit Inclination
LWD sensor provides at-bit azimuthal gamma ray and inclination measurements for improved geosteering and optimum well placement.
InSite ADR™ Azimuthal Deep Resistivity Sensor
LWD sensor provides deep reading (up to 18 feet into the formation), directional and high-resolution images that give early warning of approaching bed boundaries before the target zone is exited . Also provides a traditional multi-frequency compensated resistivity sensor. This one tool provides over 2,000 unique measurements for both precise wellbore placement and more accurate petrophysical analysis.
InSite AFR™ Azimuthal Focused Resistivity Sensor
LWD sensor produces high resolution resistivity images for identifying dip, fractures and borehole breakout. Also provides an omni-directional, laterolog-type resistivity data, electrical images of the formation, and At-bit resistivity (ABR) measurement.
InSite IXO Interface
The InSite IXO Interface from Sperry Drilling Services provides two-way communication between downhole LWD sensors and the surface at speeds up to 10,000X faster than current mud pulse telemetry rates. The IXO Interface is the link that connects the Sperry LWD system to Grant Prideco’s IntelliServ® Network.
M5™ Integrated LWD Service
Integrated LWD service provides formation evaluation answers from resistivity and azimuthal gamma ray sensors and drilling optimization answers from vibration and pressure sensors.
