Rapid Reservoir Simulation
Nexus Reservoir Simulation software provides solutions five times faster on average than other leading reservoir simulators.
More accurate, more robust, faster solutions
The Nexus package is optimized for the DecisionSpace® environment to provide integrated reservoir and facility modeling giving users one seamless solution.
Increased Accuracy in Production Forecasts
Nexus software solves both surface and subsurface equations together in a tightly coupled network model yielding more accurate results.
Multi Reservoir Models
Nexus software allows users to utilize several reservoirs from different earth model data sources into the model and to combine the reservoirs at one common surface network.
Nexus workflows provides integrated reservoir modeling and simulation workflows which help engineers to make decisions faster from a more robust and more accurate reservoir simulation. The software is built from the standpoint of achieving unprecedented speed and greater accuracy thereby giving engineers better information from which to make decisions.
Benefits
Rapid Reservoir Simulation
Nexus software provides up to 20 times faster solutions than other reservoir simulators freeing up valuable engineering time. Nexus software increases speed through a unique volume balance formulation which results in convergence with fewer iterations. The performance is realized out-of-the-box with minimal tuning required.
Increased Accuracy in Production Forecasts
The Nexus approach utilizes a tightly coupled network model which allows the surface and subsurface model to be solved in tandem resulting in a solution that is not only faster, but also more accurate. This is opposed to traditional approaches that solve the surface and subsurface networks separately and require many iterations and much time to yield an acceptable result.
Multi Reservoir Models
Nexus modeling allows users to combine several reservoirs at one common surface network (for example, a single offshore production platform). Nexus workflows also allow the reservoir data to be sourced from dissimilar earth model data sources. The data can then be combined into one multi-reservoir model by using the intuitive Windows® based SimDataStudio™ preprocessing module.
Integrated Asset Management
From reservoir to export point, Nexus reservoir simulation software can be used as a completely self-contained integrated asset management tool. Due to the software’s highly flexible coding, Nexus users can make changes in various parts of the production chain and show how the changes could effect total asset performance.
Features
Volume Balance Formulation
Nexus programming utilizes a robust volume balance formulation which runs efficiently out-of-the-box with little or no tuning required. The simulator preserves the component mass at each timestep, achieving convergence with fewer iterations, resulting in unprecedented speed for reservoir simulation.
Generalized Compositional Formulation
Nexus reservoir simulation software is designed with a generalized compositional approach. The simulator executes the same code for black oil or compositional models (only the PVT calculations are different). The only data modifications required are for the fluid description.
Multi-Reservoir Coupling
Nexus software has the ability to easily simulate multiple reservoirs at one time while maintaining the integrity of the individual models. This functionality allows different physics and formulations of the full field to be coupled seamlessly. The reservoirs can then be linked to a single, common surface network allowing the entire network to be solved as one system.
Surface Facility Modeling
The surface facilities associated with a reservoir and field can be integrated into the total asset model. When the surface facility is modeled using Nexus software customers can more accurately model asset capabilities and limitations from subsurface well configurations, to the surface pipeline, through the facilities model, and to the export point.
Tightly Coupled, Fully Implicit Surface-Subsurface Modeling
Nexus reservoir simulation software solves the surface network equations simultaneously with the subsurface equations as a part of the same system. This simultaneous, tightly coupled approach is unique to the industry and yields quicker results and a more accurate representation of the total asset. The tightly coupled network model along with a very flexible macro language allows the simulator to make changes to the well and network configuration on-the-fly.
Unstructured Solver
The unstructured solver utilized by Nexus software results in a dramatic reduction in CPU cycles in systems with many non-neighbor (unstructured) connections. These connections are present in many simulations because of faults, local grid refinements, grid coarsening, and pinchouts, so the more complex the reservoir, the greater the potential performance improvement.
Intelligent Upscaling
PowerGrid™ software (an add-on module to the Nexus Reservoir Simulation package) applies gridding and upscaling techniques making the earth models ideal for fast reservoir simulation, while still maintaining key geologic features. Upscaling and clever coarsening features prepare grids for faster reservoir simulations. Local grid refinement can be applied around well bores, faults, and channels to enable more accurate flow prediction.
Direct Access Modeling Environment
A direct access modeling environment enables integrated workflows and eliminates the need for importing, exporting and reformatting multiple data types. In other words, what you see is what you simulate.
Parallel Computing
Nexus programming takes full advantage of high performance technical computing systems (clusters, grids) by seamlessly switching from serial to parallel mode as necessary. The acceleration recognized in single workstation mode is amplified when Nexus software is run on multiple processors/multiple servers.
