FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 14, 2004
KBR AWARDED UK GOVERNMENT FEASIBILITY STUDY INTO HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANES
(LONDON): KBR has been appointed by the Highways Agency to carry out a feasibility study into the practicality and benefits of providing high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes at specific motorway sites in the UK.
The award of this study follows the Government’s recent announcement of its plans to investigate the use of dedicated motorway lanes for vehicles carrying two or more people during rush hour, aimed at cutting congestion and reducing journey times. KBR is the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton (NYSE:HAL).
John Evans, COO for KBR’s Infrastructure business in Europe & Africa said, ‘This recognises our expertise in transport planning. We are delighted to be working with the Highways Agency on this strategically important roads study.’
The Highways Agency has identified four potential sites and under the study KBR will examine these four sites in more detail. A proposed pilot lane may be selected from one of these sites.
The purpose of the study is to identify in outline how an HOV lane could be provided at each site, review and the potential problems that might arise, and to undertake a broad cost/benefit exercise to rank the sites where a scheme could potentially work. It is planned to complete the study by the end of September.
