KBR Honored as “Employer of the Year”
Veterans Employment Committee Cites Efforts at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro, CA Applauded by Local Government
HOUSTON, Texas - KBR was honored last week as the “Employer of the Year” by the Veteran’s Employment Committee of the Imperial Valley in California. The Governor of California has designated May as “Veteran’s Appreciation Month” and KBR’s Base Operating Support Services at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro was recognized for employing more veterans than any other company in the area. KBR is the engineering, construction and services subsidiary of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL).
The award was presented on May 4 by El Centro Mayor Ray Castillo to Arthur Obergh, Jr., KBR’s project general manager for the Naval Air Facility. Also in attendance were Ed Castillo-Rubio, from the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program, Employment Development Department; Ruben Tapia, adult job developer, Academic Employment Services; Norma Kastner-Jauregui, manager, Imperial Valley Employment Development Department; and Sylvia Lemus and Joe Rodrigues, local veterans employment representatives, Employment Development Department.
“We are honored to be recognized for our veterans employment program,” said Obergh. “KBR is dedicated to supporting our troops – on the battlefield and at home stations. To work side-by-side with America’s veterans is a great privilege. Their work experience, leadership skills and dedication are invaluable and each and every one of our veteran colleagues is an essential part of the KBR team at El Centro.”
The KBR Base Operating Support Services team employs 35 veterans who provide essential services – everything from project and contract management and administration to electrical, automotive, and janitorial services. Veterans have been a part of the KBR team throughout its 13-year service at El Centro. Initial training of veterans is provided by the State of California as part of the Veterans Occupational Training Program; KBR provides job-specific training as needed but makes every effort to match previous experience and skills to current job requirements.
