HALLIBURTON'S NEW CEMENT SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY DESIGNED TO SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER OPERATOR COSTS

CALGARY, Alberta - The Fluids Division of Halliburton's (NYSE: HAL) Energy Services Group has developed a new lightweight cement technology, the VariSeal™ cement system, that allows for density adjustments within a single blend without adversely affecting slurry properties and eliminates the need for separate blends for lead and tail slurries.

"As energy companies explore and produce in increasingly challenging areas, we will provide them with the "fit for purpose" technology that these wells require," said James Griffith, Cementing Technology manager - Canada. "Halliburton has been the leader in cement technology for years, and we're focusing our Canadian and global technology developments to help our customers drill more economically. The VariSeal system is the latest addition to our product portfolio."

A recent case history included the challenge to circulate cement to surface to protect groundwater. The job parameters changed, requiring a modification in slurry properties that could have added an extra day to the process. The VariSeal cement system offered "on-the-fly" variable density. Using the VariSeal cement system saved the operator a full day of rig time.

Griffith continued, "Using our new VariSeal cement system, customers can reduce their overall well construction costs, enabling them to drill more wells."

The VariSeal cement system consists of five lightweight blends, including VariSeal 1500 thermal for heavy oil applications.
