HALLIBURTON TECHNOLOGIES SHARE SPOTLIGHT AT OFFSHORE TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

HOUSTON, Texas - Two technologies developed by Halliburton's (NYSE: HAL) Energy Services Group are spotlighted at this year's Offshore Technology Conference. Halliburton's DepthStar™ tubing retrievable subsurface safety valve (TRSV) and GeoTap® formation pressure tester were among 15 technologies chosen industrywide to share the "spotlight on new technologies" honor.

"The Spotlight on New Technology Program provides a way for the offshore industry to recognize the accomplishments of companies that are driving us forward into the future," said Tony Jones, chairman of OTC New Technology Task Force and CEO of SeaVolt Technologies Inc. "The winners were chosen based on four criteria - new and innovative, proven, broad interest, and significant impact. OTC is proud to announce 15 winners for the inaugural program and recognize them during the conference for their outstanding contributions to the industry."

John Gibson, president and chief executive officer of Halliburton's Energy Services Group, said: "It is an honor for two of our technologies to be spotlighted at the industry's premier offshore technology conference. It is a tribute to the dedication of Halliburton employees to developing, perfecting, and championing technology that adds value to our customers' assets and increases our value to the industry."

The DepthStar TRSV is a revolutionary new concept in completion equipment that provides vast improvements in application, reliability, safety and cost of the overall offshore infrastructure and valve placement. This technology advancement aids operators in development of assets in deeper water depths and with higher pressures.

Use of the DepthStar TRSV as part of an overall deepwater subsea well completion program can significantly reduce a customer's capital expenditures by eliminating the dedicated surface controlled subsurface safety valve high pressure line from the subsea umbilical and instead using the exiting low pressure hydraulic line (which provides hydraulics for the remainder of the system). This also eliminates the need for the high-pressure source equipment. Secondly, since placement of the DepthStar TRSV is not affected by well pressure, it can be located at any point in the production string - even directly on top of the production packer.

Halliburton Sperry-Sun's GeoTap® formation pressure tester measures formation pressure on demand during the drilling process. The system is the first successful logging-while-drilling formation tester to employ a wireline-type pad/probe design, obtaining accurate measurements in five to seven minutes. Whereas, previous LWD formation testers employed fullbore inflatable packers, the GeoTap sensor design allows formation pressure measurements to be made with or without mud circulation, giving the driller more control during testing.

Since the GeoTap tester uses a high-resolution quartz pressure transducer, wireline quality pressure measurements at precise depth can be offered in the drilling environment. Because the measurements are made prior to extensive drilling fluid invasion or hole deterioration, the GeoTap tester allows drilling engineers, reservoir engineers, and petrophysicists to view critical reservoir information at near-pristine conditions. Savings to operators can be tremendous in both time and money, with increased well control, safety, and drilling and formation evaluation efficiency.
