FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 12, 2004
CURRENT IRAQ SITUATION
Halliburton and its KBR subsidiary issued the following statement confirming the attacks on transportation convoys last week. The assault came during a routine mission for the U.S. Army Material Command’s LOGCAP III Project. At any given time, KBR has more than 700 trucks on Kuwaiti and Iraqi roads. Drivers log roughly 3.3 million miles (5.3 million kilometers) per month.
“This is a grueling and difficult development, and we are working diligently to assist the families and the military in any way we can. KBR employees and subcontractors have all made courageous decisions to work in Iraq. Daily, they risk their personal security to serve the troops and deliver much-needed services to the Iraqi people.
Also, we at Halliburton and KBR remain anxious but prayerful that our colleague, Thomas Hamill, will be returned safely. In these agonizing moments, the company is doing everything possible to assist the family as well as our employees who must summon all of their patience and hopefulness in this difficult period.
At the moment, we all have a sense of captivity but we are hopeful for the safe return of Tommy, a father and husband as well as our friend and coworker. This is one of those pivotal moments when we hope all those in Iraq – soldiers, civilian workers and the Iraqi people – feel the power and spirit of a united America.
Our thoughts remain with our six other missing colleagues and the personnel assisting with the search and rescue effort and we remain hopeful for our other co-workers' safe return. We are grateful and supportive of everyone that continues to assist with this effort.
Civilian contractors work side-by-side with the military and Iraqi people. Our work is difficult and in a dangerous environment and we are angered and deeply saddened by this situation. Halliburton and its subcontractors have lost 30 personnel while performing services under our contracts in the Kuwait-Iraq region.
To protect the privacy of the employees' families, we will not release their names or discuss details of any incident at this time. We strongly urge you to respect the privacy of the families during this difficult situation. We are monitoring the current situation in Iraq and continue to work closely with coalition authorities regarding the safety and security of all our personnel in the region, but it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
