LANDMARK GRAPHICS ANNOUNCES SIGNED AGREEMENTS FOR OIL COMPANIES ENTRY INTO THE KAZAKHSTAN NATIONAL DATA BANK
- Proven PetroBank solution to meet E&P data management needs for Kazakh oil and gas industry -
HOUSTON, Texas - Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), announced today the signing of agreements between Geology and Subsoil Protection Committee of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan Republic and numerous oil companies that operate in the region for entry into the Kazakhstan National Data Bank. The companies who signed agreements are the following: Agip KCO, Avery Worldwide Ltd (Yukos, Kazakhstan), CNPC Aktobemunaigas, First International Oil Company, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KIO), Kazgermunai, Kazmunaigaz, PetroKazakhstan Kumkol Resources and Petrom. Landmark Graphics together with Kazakh Oil and Gas Institute were chosen as the National Data Bank operators for oil and gas projects of Kazakhstan earlier this year.
"We are very pleased about the prospect of providing National Data Bank support for the Kazakh Government and the oil and gas industry," said Andy Lane, president and CEO of Landmark Graphics. "Current National Data Bank operations in locations such as Norway, Brazil and the UK provide efficient management and access to extraordinary amounts of E&P data. We are excited that the companies that have signed to be part of the Kazakhstan National Data Bank appreciate the value proposition from cost efficiencies and cycle-time reduction, to better data quality and safe and reliable management of country data assets."
"National Data Bank is a good example of advantageous cooperation between state authorities and oil companies and is one of the priorities of oil and gas industry development of Kazakhstan," said Bulat S. Uzhkenov, Chairman of the Geology and Subsoil Protection Committee of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
By combining PetroBank™ Master Data Store technology with data management services, Landmark provides customized solutions to meet specific global needs. Landmark's national data banks manage data across the E&P lifecycle from 2D and 3D seismic to many types of well-based data. Globally, several hundred terabytes of E&P data are currently being managed within Landmark banks. Web-based interfaces to GIS capabilities provide simplified access to stored data and integration to desktop technical portals.
"Optimization of E&P work processes such as prospect generation and field development planning depends upon efficient access to high-quality data," said Murray Roth, executive vice president, Landmark Marketing and Systems Group. "National Data Banks have been shown to dramatically reduce the cycle-time for requesting and acquiring seismic data volumes. Delivering this data in project-ready formats for applications like SeisWorks™ or GeoProbe™ enables our customers to focus on high-value E&P activities, rather than low-value data searching and conversion."
Signing of these contracts during the KIOGE-2003 exhibition is a logical extension of the previous agreement between Landmark Graphics and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan Republic that was concluded in February this year and focused on implementation of a National Data Bank (NDB) operation for exploration and production data using Landmark's PetroBank technology, the most advanced multi-client data management system in the industry.
