LANDMARK RELEASES HANDHELD FIELD OPERATOR
- Innovative software technology for mobile production operations -
DENVER, Colorado and HOUSTON, Texas - Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), today announced the release of the Handheld Field Operator (HFO™), innovative software technology that provides field operations with mobile production operations support. This software package connects field operators and the asset decision processes in real-time, which are fundamental to achieving the full value of real-time production operations. HFO is tightly integrated with TOW/cs™ and the Production and Economic Desktop™, a component of the Engineer's Desktop™ a common project management system that combines drilling and production data and analytical tools. The full offering will be available in late 2003.
"Mobile computing is a strategic growth area for Landmark Graphics. Working with Intel and Microsoft, we are able to provide cutting edge technology to our customers," said Andy Lane, president and CEO, Landmark Graphics. "As computing power increases and hardware becomes smaller, faster and less expensive, mobile solutions will enable asset teams to collaborate and share data across the world with handhelds and tablet PCs; enabling our customers to work remotely in real time."
Swift Energy Company (NYSE:SFY) participated as a beta user and remarked, "the HFO™ technology presents a significant new development and a vast improvement of data handling capabilities in the oil and gas industry. We are currently able to analyze field data in a more timely fashion from our corporate offices, enabling our field personnel to operate more efficiently and almost seamlessly." Swift Energy, headquartered in Houston, Texas, engages in developing, exploring, acquiring and operating oil and gas properties, with a focus on onshore and inland water oil and natural gas reserves in Texas and Louisiana and onshore oil and natural gas reserves in New Zealand.
Integrated with Landmark's drilling and production suite, the Handheld Field Operator allows real-time data to be captured and integrated, enabling enhanced collaboration between an asset team and field operations. The system's self-validation of the key data as it is being captured results in improved data management quality and cost reduction, shortening the cycle-time from raw data to validated information and knowledge.
"We are proud that Landmark has chosen Intel Architecture for its first mobile technology offering for production operations," said Dick Bland, worldwide energy industry manager, Intel. "Companies in the oil and gas industry are increasingly turning to Intel technologies - from Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology and Intel® XScale® technology for notebook and handhelds to Intel® Itanium® 2 and Intel® Xeon™ processors for servers and workstations - to deliver the performance and capabilities they need without sacrificing open standards and superior cost/ benefits."
Through extensive customization and product support, HFO can lower ownership costs in field operations with inexpensive hardware and reduced IT costs. The HFO platform improves production efficiency, and enables users to take advantage of automatic software upgrades, improving data quality and subsequent engineering decisions. As a Windows® Mobile and Intel® X-Scale® technology-based product, HFO fully utilizes advanced communication technologies for real-time collaboration and data access.
