LANDMARK GRAPHICS AWARDS $20 MILLION GRANT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY
- Software and services will strengthen existing research at the Institute of Marine Sciences -
HOUSTON, Texas - Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton (NYSE:HAL), today announced that it has granted $20 million in integrated software and services to the University of Sydney, Institute of Marine Sciences (USMIS) in Sydney, Australia. The grant should substantially enhance the research in computational geology, geophysics, marine geophysics and ocean drilling, while achieving the university's strategic goal to upgrade their IT and technological capabilities. Landmark will provide software, support and maintenance for the academic and research programs through its geophysical, integrated interpretation and reservoir management applications.

Students and researchers at the University of Sydney now have vertically integrated teaching tools and research facilities, including geophysical and geological data input, modeling and visualization. "We are now the only geoscience department in the southern hemisphere with an educational license for Landmark SeisWorks® software on a Linux platform," said Dr R Dietmar Muller, Director, University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science. "Many of our postgraduate students are attracted to Sydney because of the industry training we offer. The formation of the Landmark teaching laboratory is timely for the recent establishment of the USIMS."
