FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 03, 2003
KBR IN UNIQUE INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP FOR SCOTTISH WATER’S CAPITAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMME
LONDON - Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) is one of eight companies that have been formed into an innovative partnership to improve Scotland’s fresh water and waste water infrastructure under Scottish Water’s £1.8 billion capital investment programme. KBR is the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton (NYSE:HAL).
Together with Scottish Water itself, seven other equity partners have formed the new private limited company, Scottish Water Solutions, divided between two consortia: Stirling Water – comprising KBR, Thames Water, Alfred McAlpine and MJ Gleeson; and UUGM – comprising United Utilities, Galliford Try and Morgan Est. Scottish Water will own 51 percent of the shares in the new company and will retain overall responsibility for the delivery of the programme.
The eight partner companies will collaborate on a jointly incentivised basis and will manage the overall programme together in a single vertically integrated team. This is the first time that the client, designers and contractors have come together in an integrated team on such a large scale in the water industry.
John Evans, COO for KBR’s Infrastructure business in Europe & Africa said: "This is a significant opportunity for KBR to apply its programme management skills and we are delighted to be providing our expertise and support to this industry-leading collaboration. I am confident that our strong partnering culture, our reputation for successful project delivery and our experience of large, complex infrastructure projects will ensure that this project is a success."
Scottish Water Solutions will deliver Scottish Water’s capital investment programme for the current period through to 2006. The work involves more than 1,500 projects which will form the basis for upgrading Scotland’s water and sewerage networks and facilities to improve the quality of drinking water and the aquatic environment. This includes building and upgrading water and waste water treatment works, and carrying out water distribution and sewer renewal throughout the whole of Scotland. Scottish Water has a network of sewer and water mains with a combined length of 45,874-miles.
KBR provides worldwide engineering, procurement, construction, logistics, operation and maintenance, program management and other technical services. Whether designing a chemical plant; serving as a defence industry contractor, or providing small capital construction, KBR delivers world class service and performance.
