HALLIBURTON EXTENDS UNDERBALANCED APPLICATIONS
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
More operators are discovering the significant benefit
of using underbalanced technologies to improve reservoir performance.
Houston, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services (HES), a business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), has expanded its underbalanced service offering in an effort to meet the needs of operators who are turning to underbalanced applications project management and supervision to improve reservoir performance.
"The underbalanced drilling market is growing rapidly," said Kent Ostroot, global business manager for Underbalanced Applications business. "Initially our project management for underbalanced applications was focused on work in the United States, Indonesia, South America and Portugal. We have now expanded the services we offer as well as the areas in which we offer them."
Engineering, project management, and data acquisition services are offered in the North Sea, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific. Halliburton's uniquely designed Four Phase Separation System and the INSITE Data Acquisition System form the backbone of Halliburton's UBA service.
"These industry leading technologies allow us to differentiate our Real Time Reservoir Evaluation strategy in these regions," Ostroot said. "Our team of underbalanced drilling specialists and reservoir engineers work with the customer and with other Halliburton product service lines to provide a truly integrated offering from well construction through completion."
Recently on a project in the Asia-Pacific, Halliburton's UBA team provided underbalanced services that resulted in a significant increase in production rate over conventionally drilled overbalanced wells in the depleted oil field. There were also notable improvements in drilling rates and directional drilling control.
In Indonesia, Halliburton was involved with a successful underbalanced drilling campaign in a fractured carbonate formation, where past conventional drilling had experienced total fluid losses along with associated drilling problems. The underbalanced drilling resulted in significant production increases due to a reduction of fracture plugging/formation damage.
"As more operators gain confidence in the application of underbalanced processes and technology, we have the potential to change the way industry does business and Halliburton is happy to be a part of this change," said Gary Godwin, division vice president, Tools, Testing & Tubing Conveyed Perforating product service line, Halliburton Energy Services. "Our emphasis is on maximizing reservoir performance, and our UBA capability allows us to leverage HES' spectrum of technology and know-how as a truly integrated service."
Halliburton Energy Services provides products, services, and integrated solutions for oil and gas exploration, development, and production. Capabilities range from initial evaluation of producing formations to drilling, completion, stimulation, and well maintenance - for a single well or an entire field. With more than 300 service centers in more than 100 countries, Halliburton possesses the global perspective that is increasingly important for energy exploration and production.
