LANDMARK GRAPHICS RELEASES PRODUCT SUITE ON LINUX

Landmark Announces Delivery of its Exploration and Development Applications on Linux at 2002 SEG Annual Meeting

HOUSTON, Texas - Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), announced today that its full suite of integrated exploration and development (E&D) applications is currently running on the Linux operating system. Landmark is the first software provider in the oil and gas industry to offer a broad suite of software applications on Linux. IBM, Intel, Network Appliance and other key industry partners are working with Landmark to offer a broad range of optimized Linux-based offerings, including workstations, servers and storage.

"Linux has built significant momentum in the upstream energy industry since we announced our initiative to deliver the full suite of Landmark applications on the platform at the SEG a year ago. Being the first E&P software provider to offer a complete set of E&D applications for the Linux operating system maintains Landmark's reputation for leadership and innovation," said Andy Lane, president and CEO of Landmark. "E&P companies are continually searching for higher performance computing options that are cost effective and we think the Linux offering provides another attractive computing platform choice for our customers."

With the adoption of the Linux operating system, Landmark's integrated interpretation, reservoir management and geophysical processing applications leverage the performance of one of the the fastest and most cost-effective technologies available to the industry today. Landmark's E&D applications now run on a spectrum of Intel® platforms from high-end laptops to parallel Linux clusters, lowering the cost of compute intensive seismic processing and reservoir simulation.

"The performance of our applications on Linux is amazing. We have seen improved performance from 2-30 times on Linux/Intel platforms versus Unix systems." said John Sherman, executive vice president, Marketing and Systems, Landmark. "In addition to raw compute speed, Linux offers great price points for computing and storage from seismic interpretation to reservoir and seismic processing. Landmark continues to invest in our customers by maintaining our products at the cutting edge of computing technology."

"Landmark has come a very long way in only one year toward adopting Linux open source solutions, providing oil companies with significant new economies," said Mark Enzweiler, general manager, IBM Global Chemical and Petroleum Industry. "IBM has also done this, taking proprietary multiprocessor management software from our high-end UNIX supercomputers and applying it to managing Intel-based clusters. This, combined with our factory preloading of cluster software, greatly simplifies integration, a key customer concern."

"We are delighted that Landmark has chosen the Intel architecture for its latest and most powerful solution for upstream exploration and production," said Tom Gibbs, director of Intel's Solution Development Group. "More and more companies in the oil and gas industry are finding that servers and workstations based on Intel processors provide a unique combination of performance, scalability and choice through open standards. This combination of capability and choice drives an optimum level value at price points they cannot find on proprietary systems."

"The Network Appliance and Landmark partnership is continually expanding to incorporate the needs of the upstream Energy industry in the areas of data storage and data management. Adding the Linux platform to Landmark's application suite, and in particular their data management solutions, gives our joint E&P customers the flexibility and high-performance value they demand," said Andy Watson, vice president Strategic Technology, Network Appliance. "Network Appliance's data management solutions enable Landmark's Linux customers to store and scale their data infrastructure reliably and securely, saving precious time and money."

Landmark will have many of its R2003 E&D applications running on the Linux platform in their booth at the 2002 SEG annual meeting. It was during the 2001 SEG annual meeting in San Antonio that Landmark, in partnership with IBM, Intel and Network Appliance, announced a major initiative to deliver the company's full range of integrated software technology on Linux within one year. Landmark actually delivered early on the promise, issuing the Linux offering in the summer of 2002.
