Landmark Graphics Expands its Data Management Center in Norway by Forming a Research Associate Program with Rogalund University, University of Stavanger and Statoil

-Norwegian research associate program to focus on quantifying and interpreting the business value of information technology in the E&P industry-

DALLAS, TX - Landmark Graphics Corporation, a wholly owned business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), today announced that it is expanding its collaboration with Statoil, Rogalund University and University of Stavanger, by sponsoring a three-year research associate program. The objective of this program is to support economics and business graduate students in their study of information technology (IT) impact in the E&P industry and to define a process by which companies can better measure their business value and return on investment from data management and IT systems. The steering committee that will manage the program includes an executive sponsor from Landmark, John Sherman, Martin Bekkeheien, Statoil executive sponsor, the graduate student’s academic advisors and industry representatives from the Norwegian E&P marketplace.

“Landmark is committed to providing Rogalund University and The University of Stavanger the ability to study the impact of implementing leading-edge technologies in E&P,” said John Sherman, Landmark’s executive vice president, marketing and systems. “This research associate program reflects Landmark’s continued interest in expanding its university grant program in Norway, as well as providing the industry with benefits from this research. Our objective with this partnership is to provide tangible results that will enable our customers to optimize their technical and business processes. The optimization of information technology is key to the future of the energy industry and we are excited at the opportunity to combine the experience of Landmark and Statoil in the industry with the outstanding academic programs at Rogalund University and the University of Statoil.”

The E&P industry has complex IT requirements that are compounded by the continuing explosion in data volumes and the trend to carry out asset management in real-time. Landmark’s PetroBankÔ data center in Stavanger has provided centralized data hosting since 1995 and has recently added the capability to host Landmark’s integrated suite of applications. This multi-client IT infrastructure provides the perfect environment for university students to study and better quantify the impact of IT and data management systems in the upstream industry.

“Landmark has one of the world’s most advanced E&P data management research and development endeavors based in Stavanger, Norway,” added Kjell Nedrebo, Landmark’s general manager, Nordic Region. “We are expanding our commitment to the Norwegian E&P marketplace and the entire industry by forming this three-year research associate program.”

“Statoil is very focused on continuous process improvements resulting from better data management solutions and practices,” remarked Kjetil Tonstad, senior advisor, Statoil. “This research program will provide a unique opportunity to tap into the data management and IT environment in Norway and make advances in both measurements of business value and quantifying change management challenges.”
