FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 28, 2002
KBR WINS MAJOR PIPELINE EXPANSION PROJECT
DALLAS-FORT WORTH, Texas - Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) has been awarded a contract by Tarrant Regional Water District for design of a high capacity expansion to the Richland Chambers 90-inch diameter raw water supply pipeline. The project will expand the pumping capacity of two booster pump stations, enabling additional raw water supply delivery to the City of Fort Worth and the Tarrant County region with increased system reliability and operability.
Maura Dunn, chief operating officer for KBR's Infrastructure business in the Americas, said: "This is an important project for our Dallas-Fort Worth office and one of the largest to be awarded by Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD). Forecasts indicate that water demand in TRWD's service area is likely to double in the next 50 years."
Tarrant Regional Water District provides raw water to 1.5 million customers in a 10-county service area in North Central Texas, including the cities of Fort Worth and Arlington. Richland Chambers is one of the four large water supply reservoirs operated by TRWD. KBR's responsibility in working with Tarrant Regional Water District is to help them meet these increasing water demands through design of the following:
| |
A new booster pump station at Ennis, Texas. The new station will include approximately six pumps, motors, electrical supply, controls and appurtenances with a capacity of 180 million gallons per day (mgd). |
| |
Expansion of an existing booster pump station at Waxahachie, Texas. The expansion will include approximately six pumps, motors, variable frequency drives, electrical supply, controls and appurtenances to provide a capacity of approximately 180 mgd. |
KBR began the project with a five-month, operational study that analyzed present and future demands and system operations to determine the expansion scenario that would offer the most reliability, flexibility, and operability. The current design phase will be completed in less than a year. Design will proceed expeditiously so that the expansion can be constructed and operational by early 2005.
