HALLIBURTON DEVELOPS RECORD-SETTING PERFORATING CHARGE
ALVARADO, Texas - Jet Research Center, a division of Halliburton Energy Services (HES), has just developed a perforating charge in its Big Hole Charge line that sets two industry records. The records - largest entry hole diameter and flow per linear foot - are both officially registered with the American Petroleum Institute (API) under its newly revised API Recommended Practice 19B, Recommended Practice for Evaluation of Well Perforators.
A 56.5 gram steel-cased charge shot at 14 shots per foot in 9 5/8-inch 47# L-80 casing resulted in an entry hole diameter of 1.29 inches, the largest registered entry hole diameter in the industry. The other record - flow area per linear foot at 18.3 square inches - is 0.25 square inches larger than the closest competitor's.
"Our new Big Hole Charge will help to increase our customers' well flow rates," said Don McAda, business development manager, Jet Research Center. "Using this larger hole diameter in sand control completions improves the placement of sand in the perforation tunnels and helps to reduce the pressure drop through each individual perforation tunnel for improved flow assurance and well integrity."
