FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 17, 2002
HALLIBURTON AWARDED INTEGRATED DRILLING SERVICES CONTRACT VALUED AT $120 MILLION
- Agip KCO extends Halliburton contract by two years -
DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton's Energy Services Group, a business segment of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), has been awarded a two year contract extension with Agip KCO (formerly OKIOC) for providing integrated drilling services for the Kashagan reservoir located in the northeast sector of the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan. Agip KCO, the field operator, is expected to deliver first oil from the reservoir by 2005.
The contract will provide a spectrum of services to Agip KCO, including well construction and data acquisition services, real-time data transmission, waste treatment, well-test and completion services.
"Halliburton has been active in Kazakhstan and demonstrated its commitment to the independent state for more than 10 years," said Jacek Gawron, vice president, Halliburton Energy Services Group Eurasia. "Halliburton has been involved with many of the major projects and investments from international oil companies, and we also work with local Kazakh companies, supplying some of them with technology and training."
Currently, Halliburton has offices in Almaty, Atyrau and Aktau, employing almost 300 people, more than 75 percent of whom are Kazak nationals.
"Adherence to Halliburton's global health, safety and environment best practices is fundamental to Halliburton's evolution in Kazakhstan and is exemplified by our activities on Kashagan," Gawron said.
In 1997, Halliburton joined with Agip KCO to create a plan to address the possible environmental and technical challenges that could arise, including safety, environmental and nature conservancy expectations, shallow (2-10 meter) and fluctuating sea levels with strong currents, deep wells, unstable salt sections, high pressure and high levels of hydrogen sulfide with potential high loss circulation.
The unique combination of expertise across various Halliburton business units such as the Energy Services Group and KBR creates an opportunity for Halliburton to provide a whole spectrum of services to Agip KCO.
