HALLIBURTON'S POROFLEX EXPANDABLE SAND SCREEN SYSTEM COMPLETES AMERADA HESS AND REPSOL INSTALLATIONS

DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services, recently performed four PoroFlex™ expandable sand screen completion system (PoroFlex™) jobs in three production wells on opposite sides of the world. Each planned interval was successfully expanded according to completion procedure, maintaining Halliburton's 100 percent expansion success rate. Halliburton Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL).

The recent installations confirmed results seen throughout the development and test program of the technology and highlight four major design benefits of the system including: superior collapse resistance and broader remedial completion options through the use of perforated solid base pipe; saving rig time by faster make-up with threaded connections, plus flexibility to rotate during installation; highest, long-term sand control reliability provided with the only diffusion-bonded laminate expandable filtration media available and with premium one-piece screen construction; lowering risk by reducing the pipe weight required to expand the screen through the ability to use hydraulic expansion that also allows expansion in wellbores where it is not possible to apply set-down weight at the expansion face.

Two of the installations took place at the Breton Sound 51 #1 well in the Gulf of Mexico for Amerada Hess in cased hole and the others took place in open hole for Repsol YPF Maxus, Southeast Sumatra, offshore Indonesia. The success of the first installation prompted Repsol to schedule another installation.

"The market for expandable sand screens is growing tremendously," said John Horgan, division vice president, Halliburton Energy Services, completion products. "The design features of the PoroFlex system will make it the expandable screen of choice for a majority of production scenarios, in which collapse resistance, long term reliability, and the ability to rotate and wash the screen to bottom are critical. These successes demonstrate Halliburton's commitment to provide superior sand control solutions."

PoroFlex expandable sand screens not only complement the sand control technology offered by Halliburton, but also position the company to provide a full range of expandable well construction products.

"Additional development of this technology is ongoing," added Randy Simonds, PoroFlex global product champion, Halliburton Energy Services. "A system for standard and H2S service for 8.5 inch open-hole or cased-hole will be available in the near term. Both sizes will be available with corrosion resistant alloy base pipe thereafter."
