HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES' ADT DRILLING OPTIMIZATION SERVICE REDUCES RISK AND DOWNTIME WHILE IMPROVING DRILLING PRACTICES
DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services, a business unit of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), announced the commercialization of the ADT™ (applied drilling technology) optimization service suite of tools, software and technical expertise. ADT™ personnel are dedicated to reducing drilling trouble time and optimizing drilling practices using critical data interpretation from a variety of downhole and surface sensors and specialized software applications. The ADT™ service focuses on three areas of expertise critical to a successful and efficient drilling process - wellbore integrity, hydraulics management, and drillstring integrity. The ADT™ service achieves this goal with a proven philosophy of modeling, measuring and optimizing by personnel whose expertise enables operators to make better decisions.
This service, provided by Halliburton's Sperry-Sun product service line, utilizes technologies from the company's Baroid and Security DBS product service lines and a strategic partner GeoMechanics International, Inc.
"We recognize the value of optimizing the drilling process in real time while enhancing rig safety and achieving all well construction objectives," said Phil Longorio, vice president, Halliburton Energy Services, Sperry-Sun. "The ADT™ service further illustrates Halliburton's ability to combine the depth and breadth of expertise that exist within our company. Our people are committed to improving the overall well construction cycle and reducing costs for our customers."
Wellbore instability has historically accounted for a significant percentage of non-productive drilling time. Wellbore integrity is achieved with comprehensive modeling and robust collaborative real-time monitoring of pore pressure and fracture gradients. Wellbore stability parameters are then integrated with a geo-mechanical earth model, incorporating such LWD measurements as sonic, density, and resistivity. Wellbore stability solutions, i.e., optimal mud weights, casing seats and wellpaths, are determined using real-time GMI-WellCheck™ application software, a comprehensive three-dimensional effective stress model that comprehends earth-stress anisotropy.
Hydraulics management is particularly beneficial in deepwater drilling and other situations where there are tight operating pressure windows. It focuses on the need to optimize hole-cleaning and hydraulics forces under static and dynamic drilling operations. The ADT™ service combines downhole annular and bore pressure measurements from Sperry-Sun's PWD tool with unique surface monitoring techniques and Baroid's DrillAhead™ forward modeling hydraulics software.
The drillstring integrity portion of the service focuses on the prevention or reduction of destructive downhole mechanical forces. The ADT™ optimization service utilizes downhole measurements from Sperry Sun's DDS™ drillstring dynamics sensor and surface measurements, as well as torsional vibration detection and analysis of vibration modes to identify and adjust for destructive drillstring energies.
"A quality wellbore properly positioned within the reservoir is vital to our customers' production," said James Bement, global business development and marketing manager, Halliburton Energy Services, Sperry-Sun. "Our ability to offer ADT™ services in combination with the Halliburton and Landmark toolkit enables us to collaborate with our customers real time within the earth model helping ensure both hole quality and optimum wellbore placement, as well as maximum reservoir deliverability."
Value is created through a change in process, risk management, and an offering of alternative solutions. Solutions and diagnoses are developed with the philosophy of "model, measure, and optimize." When warranted, additional value of the ADT™ optimization service is realized through the correct application of a broad range of proven solutions, applications, and other economic alternatives offered to the customer from the entire Halliburton toolkit.
