FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 21, 2002
HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES SIGNS LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH DOWNHOLE FLUIDICS TO MARKET FLUIDIC OSCILLATOR TECHNOLOGY
HOUSTON, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services (HES), a division of Halliburton (HAL: NYSE) today announced that it has entered into a license agreement with Downhole Fluidics Incorporated (DFI) that will enable HES to offer services using DFI's patented fluidic oscillator technology. This technology is built into a versatile tool system with proven capability to clean wellbores and help stimulate production, all in one trip into the wellbore.
Fluidic oscillator technology, currently marketed by DFI as PerfClean service, entails running a specially designed tool into the wellbore on coiled tubing to the producing zone and pumping treatment fluid down the coiled tubing and out through the tool. Because of the unique, patented design of the oscillator, pulsating pressure waves are created. These oscillating pressure waves can help remediate formation damage and improve conductivity in the near-wellbore area, perforation tunnels and formation face. Damage mechanisms that have been effectively removed include scales, paraffin and asphaltene deposits, migrating formation fines, lost or dehydrated drilling mud, resin-coated proppants and bacterial masses. The technique is equally effective in removing deposits from casing and tubulars.
"This innovative technology, coupled with Halliburton's coiled tubing expertise, opens up new solutions in wellbore cleanout, preparation for other stimulation treatments, and, in some cases, primary stimulation," said Hampton Fowler, HES coiled tubing product manager.
"This license agreement between Halliburton and DFI will make fluidic oscillator technology available to operators globally," added Jody Powers, HES president. "We see this as a very cost-effective method operators can use to help improve their reservoir performance."
Based in Midland, Texas, DFI began operations in the Permian Basin region in 1986. The company developed tools based on fluidics technology which it markets through its PerfClean services. Andy Rowe, Downhole Fluidics Vice President, stated, "We have performed services on almost 3,000 wells and reached a milestone completion of our 500th job for a large independent operator in the Permian Basin last year. We are very excited about the agreement with Halliburton, and HES' ability to deliver the oscillator technology to operators worldwide."
DFI's involvement in service treatments includes supplying personnel, tools and tool data to the operator, consulting on treatment design and specification of fluids and pumping schedules.
