HALLIBURTON SUBSEA AWARDED INSPECTION CONTRACT SICILY STRAITS
DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Subsea, a business unit of Halliburton's (NYSE: HAL) Energy Services Group, has been awarded a contract by the Transmediterranean Pipeline Company Limited (T.M.P.C.) for the underwater inspection of its pipelines in the Sicily Straits. T.M.P.C. is a joint venture company formed by the Italian Company SNAM S.P.A. (part of the E.N.I. group), and the Algerian National Company Sonatrach. Sonatrach owns the submarine section of the Algeria-Italy gas pipelines which cross the Sicily Straits.
The workscope includes a full ROV visual and instrument survey of the existing five pipelines which traverse the Sicily Straits between Cape Bon in Tunisia and Cape Feto in Sicily. The surveys will be conducted to the -15m contour lines at each landfall site with a total of 764km of pipeline to be inspected down to a maximum water depth of 615m.
The work, which includes digitally recorded video, is due to commence on-site during the first half of January 2002 and has an estimated duration of 45 days on-site plus transits to and from the worksite.
John Smith, vice president, Halliburton Subsea said, "This award provides us a very good start to the 2002 season with vessel utilisation for a significant period during the quieter winter months. Halliburton Subsea will be maximising the use of the latest digital video recording technology available for the performance of work."
