FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 27, 2001
JOE D. HUGHES SELLS BUSINESS SEGMENT TO MAMMOET
HOUSTON, Texas - Halliburton KBR announced today that it has completed the sale of the portion of Joe D. Hughes related to the Super Heavy Haul (heavy hauling using multi-axle, three or more axles, hydraulic trailers) business to Mammoet USA Inc. Halliburton KBR is the engineering and construction segment of Halliburton (NYSE: HAL). Joe D. Hughes is a division of Halliburton KBR.
Joe D. Hughes retains its over the road Heavy Haul business, its Green's Bayou Marine Terminal business, and its Marine Heavy Lift (Derrick Barge Big John) business.
In addition to the purchase, Mammoet is leasing office and equipment storage space from Joe D. Hughes to support its heavy lifting and transportation business.
The sale allows Joe D. Hughes to sharpen its focus on the Marine Terminal and Marine Heavy Lift businesses, while affording its customer base access to an enhanced integrated Transportation solution leveraging the Joe D. Hughes Terminal and Marine Heavy Lift capability with Mammoet's rail, Super Heavy Haul and Land Heavy Lift capabilities.
Walter Wells, president of Joe D. Hughes, said: " Selling the Super Heavy Haul segment of our business was a difficult decision to make. However the increased opportunities, technology and resources available to it under the Mammoet USA ownership convinced us it was the right thing to do. From our customers' perspective, our ability to focus on our remaining business segments and offer them, through our relationship with Mammoet USA, the latest in Super Heavy Haul equipment, rail transportation and Land Heavy Lift services provides the opportunity for a single source solution to their needs to move cargo within the USA."
Mammoet is the world's largest provider of engineered super heavy transport and lifting services. Mammoet USA has offices in Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago. The addition of the Joe D. Hughes Super Heavy Haul business in conjunction with access to Joe D. Hughes Green's Bayou Marine Terminal provides Mammoet USA with new capacity and flexibility in the handling of cumbersome and heavy cargo through the Port of Houston.
