for new fertilizer complex
-New plant is 20th in China to use KBR ammonia technology-
DALLAS, Texas - Kellogg Brown & Root announced today that it has been selected by CNOOC Chemical Ltd., a company 100% owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, to build a new fertilizer complex on Hainan Island, The People's Republic of China. The complex includes a 1,500 ton per day ammonia plant that will utilize KBR's Purifier Process technology and a 2,700 ton per day urea melt plant which will utilize Stamicarbon's Urea 2000 pool condenser technology. The final process unit, a 2,700 ton per day granulation plant, is based on Hydro Agri fertilizer technology. The new complex is expected to have the lowest ammonia plant energy consumption in the country. Kellogg Brown & Root is a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL).
"This facility will be KBR's fifth Purifier Plant in China and will take advantage of the combined technologies of Kellogg Brown & Root since its merger in 1998," said Randy Harl, president and chief operating officer for Kellogg Brown & Root. "We are pleased to have won this project which continues KBR's long history of providing our Chinese clients the world's leading technology."
The ammonia plant will be the largest built in China. The urea plant will be the largest in China and Asia.
Kellogg Brown & Root will conduct the engineering work and procure equipment and materials in conjunction with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI). Basic engineering will be executed in Houston by Kellogg Brown & Root, and detailed engineering will be executed by Chengda Chemical Engineering Corp of China (CCECC). Kellogg Brown & Root will also provide technical advisory services during erection and commissioning phases. The schedule calls for mechanical erection to be complete in 30 months.
KBR plants account for more than 50% of the world's ammonia capacity added since 1965. More than 200 ammonia plants have been built or are under construction that use KBR technology. Of the 30 large scale ammonia plants operating in China and 2 plants under construction in China, 19 are based on KBR technology. The new plant for CNOOC will be the 20th ammonia plant in China to use KBR technology.
Kellogg Brown & Root was formed by the 1998 merger of The M.W. Kellogg Company and Brown & Root, both of which brought ammonia technology to the new company. KBR's Purifier Process has been well-proven in 15 commercial plants with capacities ranging up to approximately 2,000 tons per day.
