FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 26, 2001
HALLIBURTON AWARDED LETTER OF INTENT FOR SAND CONTROL EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES CONTRACT BY ENTERPRISE OIL IN BRAZIL
DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services announced today that Enterprise Oil do Brasil Ltda and its partners, Petrobras and Odebrecht, have issued a letter advising their intention to award Halliburton a contract for the provision of sand control equipment and services for the deepwater development of the Bijupirá and Salema fields, offshore Brazil. The development project will be the first to be operated by an International Oil Company in the Campos Basin, and is scheduled to start mid 2001. Halliburton Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL).
"Having established a position as the number one deepwater completions provider in the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa," said Jody Powers, president, Halliburton Energy Services, "this contract allows Halliburton to expand upon an already extensive Brazilian deepwater experience base through the application of our leading-edge technologies to develop these reservoirs."
The contract, valued at approximately $9.1 million (U.S.), is one of the most technically important contracts to be placed by Enterprise, and is contingent on the execution of a mutually acceptable contract and sanction/approval of the Development Plan by ANP, the Brazilian National Oil Agency.
"This award is further evidence of Halliburton's commitment to the ongoing development of deepwater prospects in Brazil," said Halliburton's Roberto Muñoz, division vice president - Brazil. "By using our growing in-country infrastructure and resources, developed in anticipation of these significant opportunities, Halliburton will continue to provide the full range of services necessary for deepwater exploration, development and production."
The Bijupirá and Salema development plan calls for a total of 15 wells to be drilled, with nine production wells and six water injectors. Per Enterprise Oil, award of the tender was a result of Halliburton proposing the best sand face completion option for the development of the fields. The two fields are located adjacent to one another in the Campos Basin, some 90km from Cabo de São Tomé, in water depths ranging from 480 to 880 meters.
