Malampaya Umbilical Installation Completed by Halliburton Subsea

DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Subsea, a division of Halliburton Company's (NYSE: HAL) Energy Services Group, successfully performed the installation and testing of two super-duplex steel-tube umbilicals, each measuring 31.6 km in length and 142 mm in diameter, for the Malampaya Deepwater Gas To Power Project offshore Palawan, the Philippines. Work was carried out, on schedule, using Halliburton's state-of-the-art Dynamic Positioning (DP) lay vessel, the Toisa Perseus.

The umbilicals were installed sequentially, following parallel routes, from the pre-installed subsea manifold, which was located in water depths of 815 m, to the Concrete Gravity Structure (CGS) lying in 43 m of water. In order to leave sufficient clearance for drill rig anchoring, the initial routing of the umbilicals descended to a maximum depth of some 1,050 m, before rising towards the shallow water of the CGS.

The initiation, laying and CGS pull-in operation for each umbilical was completed within approximately 2 ½ days, well within the allowed schedule. The subsequent post-installation testing scope, carried out from the CGS shaft no. 1, was split between Shell (electrical testing) and Halliburton Energy Services who were sub-contracted to perform the pressure testing on behalf of Halliburton Subsea. All testing was completed successfully in less than 24 hours, also within schedule.

Through the performance of Hazids and the implementation of various risk reduction measures, operational procedures were developed with all safety and interface issues satisfactorily addressed. To date, the Toisa Perseus has completed more than 900 days of operations without a loss time incident, which is a direct reflection of Halliburton Subsea's ongoing safe working practices' focus.

Halliburton also continually enforces strict environmental requirements for all operations in the environmentally sensitive Malampaya field, offshore Palawan. Operated in accordance with the international MARPOL regulations on pollution control, the Toisa Perseus has been audited and monitored throughout the offshore works by independent Pollution Control Officers to ensure compliance with specific Philippines environmental regulations.
