FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 13, 2001
HALLIBURTON SUBSEA AWARDED SHELL INTERNATIONAL EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION INC. CONTRACT FOR TRANSPORTATION AND INSTALLATION OF NAKIKA PROJECT STEEL TUBE UMBILICALS
HOUSTON, Texas - Halliburton Subsea, a division of Halliburton Company's (NYSE:HAL) Energy Services Group, has been awarded a contract for the transportation and installation of the steel tube umbilicals for Shell's Nakika project in the Mississippi Canyon in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The contract is one of the most complex and extensive deepwater umbilical installation projects ever awarded. It involves the installation of up to 10 umbilicals, totalling 88 miles in length. They will be installed in water depths ranging between 5,800 and 7,600 feet, making them Shell's deepest.
A project management and engineering team has already been established at Halliburton's Alief complex in Houston and preliminary work is well under way.
Offshore construction is expected to take place early in 2003 using one of Halliburton's deepwater construction vessels.
Commenting on the award, John Smith, vice president of Halliburton Subsea, said, "The award of the Nakika project is particularly poignant. It represents Halliburton Subsea's first US Gulf of Mexico construction contract in recent years and it will, without a doubt, provide us with the opportunity to secure future US based deepwater projects."
Edgar Ortiz, president and CEO of Halliburton's Energy Services Group, said, "It demonstrates that our investment in a robust Gulf Of Mexico infrastructure for our subsea business is well founded. I am delighted that following the successful installation of Shell's Malampaya project steel tube umbilicals in the Philippines, we continue to build a strong working relationship with Shell and its deepwater umbilicals group."
