HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES INTRODUCES NEW DEEPWATER SYSTEM FOR SHALLOW WATER FLOW CONTROL

DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services, a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL), announces the introduction of Deep Water Flo-Stop™ (DWFS) 5000 - a single liquid additive used to control hazardous shallow water flow zones while cementing in deep water. The additive can be used with the cement already on the rig; thus, eliminating the logistics, rig-time and bulk transfer problems generally associated with costly specialty blends.

Issues commonly encountered with the cooler temperatures of primary cementing in deep water, such as slower cement hydration, extended transition times and fluid invasion, have now been addressed with the introduction of DWFS 5000. Halliburton's proprietary DWFS 5000 greatly improves the deepwater cementing success rate by adjusting slurry performance properties to prevent saltwater or gas influx.

Deepwater Flo-Stop 5000 takes us to the next level by providing excellent shallow water flow control with a liquid additive in the deepwater environment."

Cement gellation or "transition time" for conventional slurries in deep water can be as lengthy as three hours, often allowing the entry of fluid or gas. Under the same cool temperature deepwater conditions, DWFS 5000 transitions in less than 30 minutes. In addition to significantly decreasing slurry transition times, DWFS 5000 helps maintain the hydrostatic pressure on the formation, which also decreases the chance of fluid or gas influx.

Slurry compressibility is also an important factor in controlling pressure loss. When combined with the proprietary ZoneSeal™ Isolation Process, DWFS 5000 provides a compressible cement that will maintain the most effective pressure on the formation during the transition time. These low-density, compressible systems also assist with drilling fluid displacement and generate the compressive strength necessary to help assure maximum zonal isolation and long-term reservoir access.
