HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES INTRODUCES OPTICEM™ AND OPTICEM RT™ PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS WORLDWIDE

-New Cement Job Simulator Draws High Praise-

DALLAS, Texas - Halliburton Energy Services (HES) announces the introduction of its newest versions of the industry-leading OptiCem™ and OptiCem RT™ (Real Time) software programs. The OptiCem cement job simulator system, now in its third release, represents a quantum leap in functionality - used to design optimum cementing operations for the zonal isolation process. Both the OptiCem and OptiCem RT programs contain advanced capabilities that can eliminate the standard industry approach of "one size fits all" solutions for cement jobs, and can provide the Halliburton engineer with the capability to fine-tune a job throughout the design and delivery process. Halliburton Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL).

"While OptiCem has been widely used in the industry for some time, the latest software enhancements take into account the need for more effective mud removal, while the OptiCem RT program allows the operator to use actual well situations rather than basing their design on theoretical "ideal" conditions," said Jody Powers, president, Halliburton Energy Services. "Halliburton Energy Services is dedicated to optimizing its customer's time and money regardless how complex the wellbore or program - with OptiCem's advancements, we have the ability to do just that."

Major improvements introduced to the OptiCem cement job design software include the new Erodibility function, which optimizes the removal of drilling mud from the annulus during cementing operations; and the new Eccentricity feature that helps determine the optimum standoff required for maximum drilling fluid displacement. Perhaps the most significant innovation of the OptiCem program is the Tuned Spacer feature, which determines the ideal spacer based on the given conditions including the required mud displacement force, its viscosity and its yield point. In terms of designing an efficient cement job, these features are what set OptiCem apart from other industry software programs.

HES' OptiCem RT (Real Time) can also help guarantee the success of a cement job. The cementing software program provides on-site specialists with the ability to monitor real-time data, which can make certain that a job progresses as planned. If the job is not pumped exactly as designed, adjustments can be made immediately to ensure that the frac gradient is not exceeded. OptiCem RT also enables engineers to calculate and display real-time downhole data such as ECDs versus equivalent design data. Observing real-time ECDs allows one to optimize the displacement rates yielding maximum displacement efficiency. Once the plug is bumped, a post job report of design and stage data can also be created. Another new facet of the software is a Wellbore Schematic, which provides a real-time graphical representation of the fluids in the well.
