AMERADA HESS A\S INCREASES WELL PRODUCTION IN NORTH SEA SOUTH ARNE FIELD

-Project sets world record for most proppant placed in a single well-

HOUSTON, Texas - Amerada Hess Denmark met its goal of significantly increasing production from its South Arne Field. Following a highly successful fracturing campaign, production has reached planned platform capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil and 70 million cubic feet of gas per day.

The second largest field in production in Denmark, the South Arne Field is operated by Amerada Hess A/S (57.5 percent) with partners, DONG A/S (34.3 percent), DENERCO OIL A/S (6.6 percent) and Danoil Exploration A/S (1.6 percent). DANOP is co-operator.

The stimulation campaign lasted 254 days and involved treating 61 zones in five horizontal wells. The total volume of sand and proppant pumped into the reservoir was over 50 million pounds - 13.22 million pounds were pumped into one well, setting a world record for most proppant in a single well.

The type of completion selected for the five producers allowed each individual zone to be mechanically isolated from the rest. Using this method, the work-string is used both for perforating, stimulating, and isolating the individual zones. Amerada Hess A/S considers these massive completion jobs to be the key element in being able to effectively produce low permeability chalk reservoirs.

The fracturing services were contracted to Halliburton Energy Services and its m.v. Skandi Fjord, the world's largest stimulation vessel.

Edgar Ortiz, Halliburton Energy Services President, said, "We are very pleased to be a part of this success. Our goal is always to optimize our customers' reservoir performance through teamwork."

Søren Holm, Managing Director of Amerada Hess A/S, stated, "This is an excellent example of how co-operation between partners, innovative engineering solutions and good commercial arrangements can increase the production of oil in the Danish sector of the North Sea."
